In 2012, Can-Ar Coach (Tok Transit) was awarded the contract to operate and maintain the transit system for the Town of Fort Erie, in Ontario. On October 1, 2012 service commenced. Although a smaller system, Tok approached this service in the same manner as we would approach any larger system. An experienced and professional transit management team was put in place and dedicated to this contract to ensure the Town of Fort Erie’s required timelines and unique needs were met. A vehicle maintenance program that exceeds the established industry standards was put into place to ensure all units were properly serviced and that safety is never compromised.
Training excellence based on Tok Transit’s high standards for quality, performance and customer service was conducted for all operators to ensure our service standards are maintained throughout our divisions both large and small.

In the spring of 2013, TOK Transit was awarded with the contract to operate and maintain the Standard and Specialized Transit System for the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo (RMWB), also known as Fort McMurray, in Alberta, for a 15-year term plus a 5-year renewal option. TOK Transit will operate and maintain 50 standard and 9 specialized municipality-owned transit buses and a workforce of 132 full and part-time employees to manage the entire system for the RMWB. Under this contract, TOK Transit provides the facility, procures capital assets, manage transit planning, fares, marketing and customer service.
The transfer from the incumbent contactor to TOK Transit was not only successful but seamless. None of this would have been possible without months of careful planning. Preliminary fleet inspections were conducted long before the transition date. TOK chose to inspect all units in stages and identify issues early on to allow the incumbent operator plenty of time to address any deficiencies discovered. Visits by key TOK maintenance personnel took place in Fort McMurray on multiple occasions in April, May and June of 2013. By handling the fleet transfer in this manner, final inspections proceeded in a timely and efficient manner on the final transfer date. Revenue service commenced July 1, 2013 and has been running to existing schedules daily.
With the transition and start up behind us, TOK Transit together with key Municipal Staff are now able to focus on creating greater efficiencies for both the rider and the Municipality. We are currently collecting ridership data to identify ridership patterns. This type of data was never collected in the past and will be used to introduce better routing based on patron usage. We are also currently introducing new technology with focus on greater monitoring of the system, better service delivery, and greater security.
